The Landmark Show Choir was established in September 2012 in Deal by Maddie and got off to a great start with 20 people coming along for the first session at the Cleary Room at the Landmark Centre in Deal. The group now has 25-30 permanent members and there is another branch in Dover as well as a lunchtime session at the Dover Yacht Club. We celebrated our third birthday in September 2015!

It’s an open access choir for adults aged 16 plus. There’s no audition and no prior experience is required. Music is taught mainly by ear with scores available on request for those who like to read the notes and the choir enjoys learning simple harmonies. There are optional opportunities to learn more complex harmonies and sing solos for more experienced singers. The choir sings a range of fun and uplifting music from songs from the shows through to pop and gospel. We perform regularly in the community and at local theatres and have helped raise money for many charities including Kent Air Ambulance, Pilgrim's Hospice and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Maddie is delighted to be able to run the Deal choir from the Landmark Centre. She commented "I chose the Landmark because it is so central and this is a choir for the community so shares the same aims as the Centre. The Cleary Room is spacious and very bright with comfortable chairs and the staff are helpful setting everything up before I arrive. Over the years I've been part of choirs which rehearse in cold miserable rooms and I wanted to make sure I provided a really welcoming environment for my members.

Choir sessions are packed with activity – at the first session, after a quick get to know you session where everyone enjoyed meeting new people and catching up with old friends and sharing why they had come (ranging from "I used to sing so wanted to start up again" to "Joining a choir gives me something for me, having recently had my baby"), Maddie turned to focusing on posture and breathing to get the best out of your voice. After learning an unaccompanied African round in three parts, she had everyone up dancing as well as singing to the well known 80s R&B track Ain't No Mountain High Enough.

Feedback from sessions has been very positive - "I love it", "enjoy the easy dance moves you put to the songs as made it more energetic" "would love to do some gospel" "the best thing about the choir apart from the singing is the good friends I've made" "challenging, friendly, fun".

Why not come along and try the choir out which meets in the Cleary Room at the Landmark Centre, High Street, Deal on Wednesdays 5-6.30pm, £6 per session, pay as you go and at the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club, Waterloo Crescent Dover on Thursdays 6-7pm, £5 per session.
